About Us
The Rhode Island Association of School Principals (RIASP):
- Is an umbrella association serving elementary, middle level, and high school leaders from all across Rhode Island
- Is affiliated* with both the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP)
- Serves more than 450 members, including principals, assistant principals, aspiring principals, retired principals, and other educational leaders
The RIASP Agenda
In a series of board retreats sponsored by the Business Education Roundtable, the RIASP Board of Directors established the following goals for the association:
- Expand and Improve Support Services to Members by:
- Creating a website to promote the work of the association
- Creating a list serve to better inform our members
- Creating more programming for assistant principals
- Creating new services through our partners at MetLife
- Training principals in current issues, such as "looking at student work"
- Strengthen the Organization of the Board of Directors by:
- Aligning board procedures with national guidelines
- Updating all board positions and roles
- Establishing new subcommittees to better address the work of the board
- Revising and updating the Association's by-laws
- Providing an orientation to new board members
- Develop Greater Political Influence for RIASP and Its Members by:
- Developing a legislative agenda for the association
- Promoting the principal's perspective in the state's dialogue on education
- Informing our members about state and national issues that affect their work
* The affiliation agreement between RIASP and the two national associations prohibits prospective members in Rhode Island from joining either the state or the national association without also joining the other.
