PRESENTATION AND QUESTION & ANSWER SESSION ON

TRAUMA-INFORMED & TRAUMA-SENSITIVE SCHOOLS

 Monday, October 29th at 7:30am - 9:00am

RIASP Offices 2480 Post Road, Suite 332

Join us for presentation and a question and answer session on trauma-informed and     trauma-sensitive schools.

A substantial body of research proves that household dysfunction like abuse and neglect result in toxic stress and trauma for students.  Students with trauma may present challenging behaviors in school.  Currently, most schools are ill-prepared to respond to these students' needs.  Student needs exceed the capacity of counselors and social workers.  Part of the solution is becoming a trauma-sensitive educator.  This training with provide you with initial knowledge, tools, and resources to build trauma-sensitivity into your practice as an administrator.  Trauma-informed practices use neuroscience as a basis for action.  This presentation will touch upon neuroscience, managing challenging behaviors, self-care for educators, and a robust Q&A.

Presented by Karen Oliveira, LICSW, professor of social work at Rhode Island College and social worker in the Central Falls schools, and Nicole Fiero, MEd, MAT, assistant principal at Slater Middle School in Pawtucket.
