NE Base Camp School Leader Series: Summer 2020

New England Basecamp proposes to convene a small, intimate cohort of school leaders from across districts and grade levels in Rhode Island to discuss common challenges and solutions for the 2020-2021 school year. School leaders will develop a Strategic Plan for the 2020-2021 School Year that will serve as the road map to guide students, teachers, and support staff to success in any learning context in Fall 2020. Participants will have the opportunity to share ideas and collaborate on the creation of their plans. Upon completion of the series, school leaders will present their plans to the cohort and receive feedback from their peers and NEB coaches.

Objectives School leaders will:
● Generate ideas and share best practices with one another
● Engage in dialogue about ensuring equitable learning experiences for students from all backgrounds and across diverse district contexts
● Develop a transformational vision for school success and student achievement

Session 1 | Regrounding: Looking Back and Looking Forward July 21, 2020, 10:00-12:00 It is important, even during this fast-moving time, to step back and reflect on what is going well and what is not. It is equally as important to ground yourself in your mission, vision, and core values to serve as a lens through which you make tough decisions. In this session, participants will grapple with the questions: 1. Looking Back: What went well during our spring response, what didn't, and what can we learn from it? 2. What is our purpose as an organization, and what does this mean for how we respond in this moment?

Session 2 | Prioritizing: Identifying Priorities Across Likely Scenarios July 23, 2020, 10:00-12:00 There remains a great deal of uncertainty about what school will look like come the fall. In an effort to be as prepared as possible, school leaders need to think systematically across multiple scenarios without getting overwhelmed by all possibilities. In this session, participants will grapple with the questions: 1. What do you need to do to prepare your school to deliver your core school functions across multiple scenarios (distance, in-person, hybrid)? 2. Which portions of work should you prioritize for now, later, or never?

Session 3 | Planning: Creating an Implementation Plan July 28, 2020, 10:00-12:00 Moving to action during such uncertainty is a challenge. In order for schools to be successful, school leaders need to develop simple and actionable plans that remain flexible. In this session, participants will grapple with the following question: How will we organize ourselves to ensure we deliver on our key priorities across each scenario?

Session 4 | Connecting: Stakeholder Mapping July 30, 2020, 10:00-12:00 Connections are key during moments of challenge. School leaders need to provide clear, frequent, and empathetic communication and opportunities for community-building. In this session, participants will grapple with the question: How will we connect with others to communicate our plan efficiently, effectively, and with empathy?
