RIASP regards retired school principals as a very valuable and, as yet, untapped resource for Rhode Island’s schools as well as for the Principals’ Association itself. In an effort to utilize the talents of former school principals, RIASP has two retired principals on its board of directors who are working specifically to serve our retired members.
Sylvia Natale, a former elementary school principal from Woonsocket, and Cheryl Gomes, the former principal of Classical High School, are currently focusing their energies on two issues: using retired principals as coaches to support newly appointed principals and keeping former principals involved in education by lobbying at the statehouse on issues that are important to all school leaders. They have also expanded RIASP services to retired principals by providing programming to meet their unique needs.
