Session Description: 

With RIDE placing a renewed emphasis on mathematics achievement, this 1-hour session is designed to help principals effectively support math coaches and strengthen instructional practice across classrooms. While principals are not expected to be math content experts, their leadership is critical in setting the tone, creating supportive structures, and aligning school priorities with high-quality math teaching. This session will provide practical strategies for clarifying the coach’s role, protecting coaching time, using informal observations to support math growth, and fostering a schoolwide culture that values mathematical thinking. The session will also examine what makes math coaches effective, highlight proven coaching practices, and offer tools principals can use to better support and partner with their school-based coaches.
